New Hampshire Land Trusts
New Hampshire has one of the strongest land conservation communities in the country, consisting of 50 active land trusts that have protected more than 300,000 acres throughout the state. Local land trusts and open space groups in New Hampshire focus on protecting the most significant natural resources in their region. These non-profit organizations, sometimes run completely by volunteers, have been extremely effective in educating neighbors and city officials about the importance of open space. They are often the first group to recognize a unique habitat or pristine watershed that needs to be protected. By working on the local level, they can produce amazing results both in fundraising and gaining the community support necessary to help save a natural treasure.
