Scenic Conway   The Upper Saco Valley Land Trust completed two easements that together permanently protect more than 1,500 acres and nearly 4 miles of undeveloped road frontage on roads designated as scenic by the Town of Conway.

Classic Conservation

1954   Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas leads a "blister brigade" of hikers down the old Chesapeake and Ohio canal from Cumberland, Md. to Washington D.C. to oppose a highway that he said would spoil the natural beauty of the canal. The area became a 12,000 acre national park in 1971.
